If you're like most mamas, when you find out that you're pregnant, you probably have this beautiful picture in your mind of what birth will be like. Maybe you imagine a peaceful environment, a supportive team, and the moment you finally hold your baby in your arms.
But what you may not realize is that, especially in America and many other parts of the world, there’s a system behind the scenes that you’re not always aware of—one that can easily derail that dream if you don’t understand how it works.
Today, I want to share a little cautionary tale, not to create fear, but to help you see what you’re up against and how you can prepare so your birth reflects God’s design, not man’s system.
Many women have come to believe that the only safe place to give birth is in a hospital. Two hundred years ago, no mother would have imagined giving birth there. But today, it’s expected.
Here’s the truth: a machine has developed—one that values efficiency, schedules, and liability more than personalized, God-honoring care.
If you’re listening to this, I’m guessing you want something different. You want a natural birth, with as few interventions as possible. That’s good. But you also need to know that the hospital system often doesn’t want that for you.
I know this because I was part of that system. I used to be one of “them.” I wanted births to go smoothly and predictably because that made my job easier. But when a mama came in with her own birth plan, wanting something “out of the ordinary,” it created tension.
Imagine telling your nurse that you don’t want an IV because you’re low-risk and have made an informed choice. She might seem fine with it at first, but soon someone else may come in, trying another approach to convince you otherwise.
The goal often becomes compliance—it’s easier for staff, for scheduling, for charting—but not necessarily what’s best for you.
Behind every hospital policy is fear: fear of liability and lawsuits. Decisions are made not from faith or trust in God’s design, but from the need to protect the institution.
I once received a flyer for a maternity care conference where several of the speakers were both OBs and lawyers. That hit me hard. When medical care becomes tangled with law, it’s no longer centered on mothers and babies—it’s about protection and profit.
Here’s something eye-opening: there’s a spike in C-sections around 5:00 PM on weekdays and again around 9:00 or 10:00 PM. Does that mean more emergencies happen at those times? No. It often means staff are ready to go home.
Decisions are made for convenience, not necessity. Babies come when babies come. Birth should never be guided by a clock.
Nurses and providers, including myself in the past, face immense pressure to finish charting, meet quotas, and move on to the next shift. It’s not right—but it’s real.
When I returned to my hospital job, I couldn’t see things the same way anymore. I watched mothers being induced for convenience, not because it was necessary—often at night when they were already exhausted.
I found myself torn between two impossible choices:
* Give mothers true informed consent and risk my job when they refused unnecessary procedures.
* Or stay quiet and risk my integrity, my license, and the well-being of those mothers and babies.
I couldn’t do it anymore. So I quit.
That’s when I began my journey to becoming a midwife—combining medical knowledge with a faith-based understanding of birth. I wanted to help women give birth naturally, safely, and confidently in alignment with God’s perfect design.
If you’re planning a hospital birth, preparation is your greatest weapon. Be informed, be confident, and be clear about what you want.
Know what you’re willing to do and what you’re not. Write it down. Stand firm in your convictions. When you know your rights and trust God’s plan, fear loses its grip.
I’m not saying this to scare you—but to prepare you. Don’t walk into a system unaware. Walk in strong, with knowledge and faith.
That’s why I created the Your Birth God’s Way Live Course. It gives you the tools, Biblical foundation, and confidence to face this system head-on—not with fear, but with peace and faith in the One who designed birth perfectly.
It is possible to have the birth you want in a hospital. It takes preparation, prayer, and persistence.
Information is power—and preparation brings peace. You don’t have to fear the system when your trust is rooted in God. With faith, knowledge, and support, you can rise above it.
