Your Birth, God's Way Blog/Pregnancy/Navigating Pregnancy During Cold and Flu Season: Empowering Choices for Christian Moms

Prefer to listen? Here's the audio!

Well, mama, it’s cold and flu season. Welcome to the fall and winter in America! If you haven’t seen them yet, they’re coming — get ready for all the commercials and all the pressure tactics from your providers, maybe even from your mom, grandma, or friends telling you, “You better run out and get that flu shot.”

You’ll hear, “You better hurry up and get it — ’tis the season, right?”

So today, we’re going to talk about what you need to know if you’re pregnant during the cold and flu season — what to expect, what to do, and how to walk through it with wisdom and faith.

Your Birth God’s Way

Are you a Christian woman yearning for a beautiful, joyful pregnancy and birth with a focus on God, not medical tests?
Are you worried that the birth you want isn’t possible, or tired of being treated like an accident waiting to happen?

Hey, mama — I’m Lori, host of Your Birth God’s Way. I’m a certified nurse midwife now, but I wasn’t always. After nearly 20 years in the broken maternity system, I was in your shoes — wondering how I could have the birth I wanted and that I felt God meant for me to have.

And I found a secret that’s actually been known since the beginning of time: God’s way is the best way.

God made us and our babies, and He knows us best. He designed us perfectly for pregnancy, birth, and nourishing our babies after birth — if we work with His design and not against it.

In this space, you’ll learn how to stay healthy and joyful during this season of life that will be over before you know it.

So if you’re ready to reclaim your birth and your babies for His glory, go ahead and turn on a few episodes of Bluey for your little one so you can focus on you for a few minutes with me.

A Heartfelt Thank You

Last week, I said I wanted to jump through the phone to hug Jen’s neck for that awesome review she left me — and now, I want to hug another one of you!

This time, it’s from L. Willems, who wrote:
I was hoping to find a Christ-centered pregnancy podcast for my first pregnancy, and this one has been such a blessing. It’s exactly what I was hoping to find. I love that the episodes are a shorter length and they’re all so encouraging.”

That’s exactly what I pray for — that Your Birth God’s Way would bless and encourage Christian moms like you.

Mamas, when you take 30 seconds to leave a written review, it not only encourages me, but it helps other moms find this podcast too. We all know that mamas everywhere need encouragement. So thank you, L. Willems, and thank you to all who have left reviews.

If you haven’t yet, please take a moment to hit pause, tap that fifth star, and leave a few words. It means so much to me — and it helps others discover the truth that God’s way is the best way.

The Truth About Flu Season and Pregnancy

Let’s get into it. What should you do when you’re pregnant in the cold and flu season?

You’ve probably already started hearing the messaging: “It’s flu season — the scariest of the scary!”

Now it’s not only flu season, but also cold season — and probably COVID season too.

You’ll hear that your immune system is “weakened” during pregnancy and that your body doesn’t know what to do anymore. You’ll be told that you need a shot to protect yourself because “God’s immune system just isn’t good enough.”

If you get the shot, you’ll be praised as responsible. If you don’t, you’ll be treated like you don’t care.

But here’s something most people don’t know: doctors and clinics get reimbursed more by insurance companies when a certain percentage of their patients get vaccines. That’s right — when I was still in the system, I was fussed at because my moms weren’t getting those shots. Once the office reached about 80%, there was a financial kickback.

So ask yourself — are they pushing it for your good, or for their own gain?

What You Need to Know

Here’s some food for thought.
Did you know that the CDC owns multiple vaccine patents? That means the same organization recommending vaccines profits when people get them — a major conflict of interest.

There’s also a revolving door between top CDC officials and major pharmaceutical companies. Many of the same names move back and forth between these positions.

And when it comes to vaccine studies, the “control” group — the one meant to receive a harmless placebo — actually receives injections containing all the same ingredients except for the pathogen. That means they aren’t testing shot vs. no shot. They’re testing two shots full of the same additives.

That’s not true science.

To make matters worse, vaccine companies have no liability for injuries. If you experience a side effect, you can’t sue them. Compensation, when granted, comes from taxpayers through the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program.

And here’s something most don’t realize — no vaccine has ever been tested in pregnant women. Yet several are now universally recommended during pregnancy without new safety studies.

Understanding the Bigger Picture

The ingredients in many shots include metals like mercury and aluminum. These can accumulate in the brain and body over time, especially when given repeatedly or at a young age.

The EPA says 0.45 micrograms of mercury per pound is the safe limit. The flu shot contains 25 micrograms — safe only for someone weighing 550 pounds!

And newborn babies, who receive certain shots at birth, are given doses of aluminum far above the safe limit for a 50-pound child.

Common sense tells us that this isn’t right.

I’m not saying every illness or condition is caused by this. Correlation is not causation. But something is happening — and as mothers, we must be wise and cautious about what we allow into our bodies and our babies’ bodies.

Supporting God’s Design for Immunity

So, what should you do instead during cold and flu season?

It’s really not that complicated.
* Eat real, whole foods — as close to how God made them as possible.
Support your immune system with nourishing foods, rest, and whole-food supplements.
* Use natural remedies like elderberry syrup, which work with your body instead of suppressing it.
Rest when you’re sick. Don’t push yourself to keep going. Your body heals best when you allow it the space and energy to do so.
* Avoid unnecessary pharmaceuticals unless truly needed. Many of them override the body’s natural immune processes that God designed.
Remember, this is not medical advice — always consult your provider. But know that God designed your body to heal.

When you support His design, it does exactly what it’s made to do.

Rest, Faith, and Trust

Mama, you don’t need to live in fear this season.

You don’t need every commercial’s latest “solution.”
You don’t need to rush out for every new shot.

You need to rest, trust, and support the immune system God lovingly created within you.

He designed your body — and your baby’s — with incredible wisdom. Let’s work with His design, not against it.

And if all this feels overwhelming, remember: you’re not alone.

You can always book a Power Hour Consultation with me through my website — a one-on-one time where we can talk through your options, pray together, and help you make confident, faith-based choices for your pregnancy.

Because ultimately, my goal isn’t just for you to be healthy — it’s for you to draw closer to God through this journey.

If today’s message blessed you, would you head over to Apple Podcasts and leave a quick five-star review? It takes less than a minute but helps so many other mamas find Your Birth God’s Way.

See you back here soon, mama — and remember, God’s way truly is the best way.
