We live in a world that says, “Trust only what you can see,” and to forget God—as if He were a fairy tale. Especially in matters of health, that message can feel loud. But you know that isn’t true.
When the world is shouting one thing and the still, small voice within you says otherwise, it’s hard to know what to do. This episode steps back from the noise to refocus on what faith looks like in pregnancy, birth, and motherhood.
This episode may be hard—but it lays the foundation for the shows to come. There are plenty of places for facts and figures. Here, we’ll look inside and challenge patterns that don’t serve you. It might step on your toes, and that’s okay. Growth often starts with discomfort.
For a long time, I assumed “the way things are” in maternity care was simply best. Over time I realized much of it is new—and not necessarily better. We’ve been leaving out the most essential element: the Creator and Designer. We replaced Him with machines, tests, and brightly lit, sterile buildings.
This podcast will be different. We’ll examine ourselves, think deeply, and let God reshape how we approach pregnancy and birth.
“Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves.” — 2 Corinthians 13:5
This is an ongoing process—we never “arrive.” In pregnancy and childbirth, we need the same focus.
This isn’t about guilt. We all learn as we go.
“The blood of Jesus… cleanses us from all sin.” — 1 John 1:7
If you see a place you’ve missed the mark, course-correct and do better. He meets us where we are.
Our congregation recently studied Jesus calming the storm. The disciples—people who believed in Him—panicked as waves crashed over the boat. Jesus awoke and asked, “Where is your faith?”
He was in the boat with them—the Creator of the storm, of the sea, of them. If we’ve put on Christ, we believe He formed us in the beginning. Do we really think pregnancy and birth unfold by chance? Or do we believe He is present in every step?
We can’t keep putting ourselves—or our providers—in the seat of God and expect it to go well. Have you unconsciously made your provider the authority who declares what’s true about your pregnancy and baby?
Can any provider add a single breath to your life or your baby’s? God created every cell in both your bodies and designed their perfect function. Yet in the most important moments, many of us turn everywhere but to Him for strength and wisdom.
Let’s invite Him back into the center.
1) Do you truly pray for God’s will—always?
Do you pray only when you’re afraid, or do you invite His will from the start and keep praying through each decision?
2) Are you feeding your faith with Scripture?
Faith-building stories are everywhere in God’s Word. Daniel refused to bow to Nebuchadnezzar, not knowing if God would physically rescue him—and still chose obedience. Will you do what’s right even when outcomes are unknown?
3) Are your birth decisions aligned with God’s design?
From the beginning, women have given birth with the design God placed in their bodies. Every substance or intervention carries effects. Many are helpful in the right context—but they are not neutral. Are we exposing all mothers and babies to interventions a few truly need?
Consider nutrition, movement, and posture—simple, God-given supports that strengthen labor and positioning. He’s provided what we need; we often settle for lesser imitations.
4) Do you trust your God-given instincts?
The world says only a degree grants wisdom. But mothers have God-given intuition. If you live in constant anxiety between prenatal visits, it isn’t good for you or your baby—and it may reveal where your trust is anchored.
5) Have you learned how your body is designed to birth?
You trust a carmaker’s manual; shouldn’t you learn your Maker’s design? The more you understand how God crafted your body to grow, labor, and birth, the more your faith in Him deepens. Did He make a mistake with your baby’s size or your body’s ability? No.
6) When a test or provider says something “has to” be done—what do you do?
Don’t ignore counsel, but don’t let fear steal your peace. False positives happen. Get informed, pray, and lean on God’s wisdom more than on data. Let peace and clarity lead your decisions.
Some will say this approach is reckless. But look at the outcomes: despite high spending and advanced technology, U.S. maternal and infant outcomes are not where they should be. Nations where midwives manage most normal pregnancies often see better results. Perhaps it’s time to ask whether our default approach is serving families well—and to consider returning to care models that honor God’s design.
It starts with us—women of faith who know there is a better way.
“The LORD called me from the womb… From my mother’s body he named my name.” — Isaiah 49:1
“Thus says the LORD who made you, who formed you from the womb…” — Isaiah 44:2, 24
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you…” — Jeremiah 1:5
“You formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb… In your book were written… the days that were formed for me.” — Psalm 139:13–16
From your baby’s first cells, God knows and sustains. Nothing about your pregnancy is hidden from Him.
“Be strong and courageous… do not be afraid.” — Joshua (repeated)
“…do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God…” — Philippians 4:6–7
“God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” — 2 Timothy 1:7
“Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7
He already knows every one of your days. Trust doesn’t mean you’ll never face problems—but you’ll never face them alone.
Let’s begin trusting God with our pregnancies, our births, our babies—and our own hearts. This is just the beginning of our journey together.
