If you live in the Upper Cumberland area of Tennessee and you're interested in having me attend your birth at home, read on!

Home birth is special...

It is one of the most blessed experiences in the life of a family bringing a new life into the world.  God makes our bodies to grow life and give birth, and that process usually works very well when it is supported well.  Walking through the journey at home, where you are comfortable and in your own space, is one of the best and safest ways for most women. to give birth  You can move around, eat and drink if you wish, be in spaces that bring you peace and comfort, and control who is present when you give birth at home.

Midwifery care is a kind of care unlike any other. Midwifery care supports all that is normal and encourages it to remain normal.  Midwifery care does not treat you like an accident waiting to happen.  Pregnancy is not an illness and pregnant women should not be treated like they are sick.  Midwives recognize this and help you support the natural process your body is experiencing.

About Me

I am a Christian midwife.  I acknowledge God's design in every aspect of childbearing, from conception, to pregnancy, to labor, to birth, on to breastfeeding and being a mom.  While you do not have to be a Christian for me to care for you, you must understand that I can't compartmentalize my faith.  It is who I am.  I believe birth is a normal process designed by God and my job is to support that.

I began my work in the birth world back in college. While attending Belmont University, I worked on the postpartum floor of a local hospital where I first started to fall in love with helping moms during this precious time of life.  Later, after graduation, I was commissioned into the United States Navy Nurse Corps, and while there I worked in many areas including the Emergency Department, the Mother Infant Unit, and Labor & Delivery.  I also held an extra job at a local hospital in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, where I developed skills to help babies having trouble during their early life.

After being honorably discharged from the Navy., I did work in many different disciplines including research, infection control, and obstetrical emergency.  But around this time is when I started to realize that most of what I had been taught in my days of working in hospitals was not the best way.....
and that's when everything changed.

In 2011, as I attended training to become a doula, my eyes were opened to how much I had bought into that was not helping moms, but in many cases, hurting them.  I quickly realized I could not stop there.  I decided to go back to school and become a midwife.  I enrolled in Frontier Nursing University where I obtained my Master of Science in Nurse Midwifery.

After graduation I worked at a birth center/hospital combined practice (where I also completed a large portion of my clinical/practical training) until I stepped away to raise my growing family.  You see, while I was in school, I met and married my husband, Andrew, we had our first child, and I was close to having our second at graduation.  When #3 came, I decided it was time to be home with them.  I love being home with my babies which allows me to raise them in God's ways.  We homeschool, as well.  And while I also love helping mamas in their childbearing time, my babies only have one mama and they need me more.  So that's where I've been....until now...

In 2023, as they got a little older, I started the "Your Birth, God's Way" podcast to help moms across the country (and even the world) find the peace and joy that this process can bring because of God's love for us and His perfect design while still being home fulfilling my most important roles of wife and mom.  Through that work, in 2024, I decided it was time to get back into attending births.....and now here I am and here you are.

It is my honor that you are considering me to attend your birth.

Where do I attend births?

I attend births within a rough radius of 30-40 minutes of my home in Livingston, Tennessee. Areas I serve include: Livingston and Overton County, Cookeville, Sparta, Crossville, Gainesboro, Celina, and other surrounding communities. In extenuating circumstances, I will consider attending births in other areas if special arrangements are made which may include an increase in the amount for my services.  If you live outside of this radius, we can also discuss the option of ways you could come to me to receive care if you are in an area without home birth options.

Home Birth is different...

It is an investment in your health, your family, and your future.

Due to the restrictive nature of accepting insurance reimbursement, I do not accept insurance.  I can help you fill out your forms, and I am glad ot collaborate when you use a health care sharing ministry like Samaritan Ministries, but you will be responsible for the amounts not covered by them.

The following services are included in the care I provide:

  • Prenatal home visits
  • Routine lab tests,
  • Labor & Birth support, including at least one trained assistant
  • Immediate postpartum care
  • Breastfeeding support (for complicated situations, referral will be made to lactation consultant which is not included)
  • Filing birth certificate after birth
  • Newborn screening
  • Newborn hearing screening
  • Two postpartum visits

The following services are not included and if they are needed, they will require additional fees:

  • Ultrasounds
  • Rhogam injections
  • IV treatments (including GBS treatment)
  • Suturing (service is included up to 2nd degree - charge is only for supplies)
  • Newborn medications
  • Physician consultations
  • Birth supply kit

If we mutually decide to partner in your care for your pregnancy and home birth, the amount for the above included services is $7000.  Discounts are offered for current military members and their spouses and veterans. (Proof of service required.) Additional discounts are offered for paying by cash/check and for paying in full by 20 weeks gestation.  Payment can be spread out over the course of pregnancy. The full amount is due by 34 weeks gestation (based on your estimated due date or "guess date").

For comparison, below you will see the average cost for my zip code for impersonal, medicalized maternity care in a hospital setting according to Healthcare Bluebook as of August 2024.  With this care, you see your provider for a couple of minutes per visit and they will show up to do somethings to you during labor and just before your baby is born.  Often times, even with insurance, you will still be left paying a large portion of the bill.  Under my care, for a lower price, you will receive personalized, one-on-one care throughout your pregnancy. Visits are usually 30 minutes to an hour and I will be with you throughout active labor as birth approaches, through the birth, and during the first few hours postpartum.

Filling out this form is not a commitment on your part or a promise for me to care for you on my part.
It is simply the first step for us to begin a conversation about whether we will be a good fit for your pregnancy care.
